Traian Băsescu, former president of Romania, discussed the fuel crisis in the context of the blockade of oil supplies due to the conflict in Ukraine.

"So the Caspian Pipeline Consortium is the 1,500 km pipeline that connects Tengiz, the largest oil deposit in the world, to Novorossiisk, 1,510 km. But this route is closed and I want us to understand in what context we are discussing. In the situation where the Tengiz field is held in a proportion of 50% by Chevron, plus 25% by Exxon, while the Kazakhs have 20% and Lukoil has 5%. So the field is managed by Americans, and Chevron has 15% in the transport pipeline from Tengiz to Novorossiisk.

We are talking about Ukraine, to whom we are giving bread from our mouth, as they say, to help them in the war, and they are causing us huge damages by blocking oil supplies, not only to Romania but to Europe. Because Novorossiisk is the terminal that supplies Kazakh oil to Europe, as well as Russian oil. There is a part of the electorate that says we should not help the Ukrainians so much," said former president Traian Băsescu on Sunday evening.
