Former President Traian Băsescu declared, in an interview broadcast by Digi24, that the bombing of the east-west pipeline in Saudi Arabia will have strong effects on Europe by reducing the flow of oil to the port of Yanbu.
According to the former ship captain, the pipeline transported crude oil from Saudi Arabia’s east coast to Yanbu, over a distance of approximately 1,100 kilometers. According to him, approximately seven million barrels of oil were normally delivered through the port each day, and the transport was halted after the attack.
“The bombing of the east-west pipeline in Saudi Arabia, which prevented crude oil from reaching Yanbu, will affect Europe very seriously,” the former president stated.
Traian Băsescu argued that the current energy problem is not caused by Ukraine, but by the escalation of the conflict in the Gulf. He linked the situation to the United States’ intervention in Iran and the subsequent attacks on countries under Washington’s protection. The statements were made in the context of discussions about the security of fuel supplies and the vulnerability of oil routes in the region.
