The High Court of Cassation and Justice definitively removed a judge from the judiciary after she delayed rulings in 387 civil cases

Judge Daniela Marinela Stoica of the Galați District Court was definitively removed from the judiciary after repeatedly postponing, without justifiable reasons, rulings in hundreds of civil cases. On September 14, the High Court of Cassation and Justice rejected the appeal filed by the judge against the sanction imposed by the Superior Council of Magistracy.

According to the High Court of Cassation and Justice, the judge postponed rulings in 387 civil cases for periods of up to 381 days. The Supreme Court established that she had repeatedly failed, for reasons attributable to her, to comply with the legal provisions requiring cases to be resolved expeditiously.

The decision of the High Court of Cassation and Justice is final, and the sanction of removal from the judiciary remains in force. The judge had previously been subject to disciplinary sanctions for similar conduct and for attitudes deemed undignified while on duty.

The High Court emphasized that diligently carrying out one’s duties is an essential obligation of magistrates. Unjustified delays in the administration of justice can fuel a sense of injustice and undermine public trust in the judicial system.
