President Nicușor Dan commented on the decision of the Ukrainian authorities to close high schools that teach in the Romanian language, stating that this provision will not apply until 2027. According to a law that will come into force that year, Romanian high schools in the Chernivtsi region will be affected, and the secretary of the Inter-regional Union 'Romanian Community in Ukraine', Aurica Bojescu, announced that several high schools will be closed starting September 1, 2027.

The new network of high schools approved by the Chernivtsi Regional Council provides for only four high schools teaching in Romanian and new mixed ones, which has raised concerns in the Romanian community in the region. The disappearance of high schools in the Romanian language would affect historic Romanian localities, including Mahala and Hliboca.
