President Nicuşor Dan stated on Monday, in Finland, that Russia is showing no willingness to resume negotiations and that the war in Ukraine could continue for at least another one or two years. The statement was made in an interview with Euronews, amid the absence of clear signals that Moscow is moving closer to the negotiating table.

The head of state said that, although the situation along the front line remains almost unchanged, the effects of the conflict are being felt increasingly strongly in the society and economy of the Russian Federation. According to Nicuşor Dan, drone technology makes any territorial advance very costly, limiting major changes on the front.

The president pointed to two developments considered certain: the Russian economy is suffering, while Ukrainian forces are managing to strike deep inside logistics centers and refineries. Under these circumstances, Romania and its allies must be prepared for the conflict to continue, in the absence of a decision by Russia to begin negotiations.
