Minister of Health Alexandru Rogobete announced three priority directions for improving care for people living with rare diseases, during the “Memorandum for the Future” event, organized at the “Carol Davila” University of Medicine and Pharmacy in Bucharest. According to the minister, the signed document marks the first concrete form of collaboration between the Ministry of Health, universities, patient associations, ARPIM, and medical professionals.
The first priority is the development of the National Neonatal Screening Program, to identify rare conditions from the first days of life. Rogobete emphasized that early diagnosis is essential for initiating treatment.
The second direction concerns expanding multidisciplinary teams in integrated diagnostic and treatment centers. The minister intends to discuss with the National Health Insurance House the introduction of service packages that would allow coordinated care provided by several specialists to be reimbursed.
The third priority is ensuring continuity of care for pediatric patients who reach adulthood. The minister also identified research, innovation, and appropriate monitoring as objectives for the coming period.
