The Federation of Free Trade Unions in Education and the 'Spiru Haret' Federation have planned protests in front of the Government and the Parliament to challenge policy measures aimed at reducing the budget deficit, which are considered harmful to education. More than 2,000 union members are expected to take part in the peaceful actions, scheduled for July 9-15. The protests come after a Japanese strike that began on June 18, in which teachers voiced their disapproval of increased teaching hours and the abolition of certain allowances.
