The president of USR, Dominic Fritz, accused PSD of trying to promote unconstitutional amendments to the integrity law, directly targeting him, after the Senate rejected the project. In a broadcast on Digi24, Fritz characterized the move as an "extremely cynical game" that affects democracy. He emphasized that the amendments proposed by PSD aimed at retroactive application of sanctions for conflicts of interest.
During the debates, PSD senator Daniel Zamfir rhetorically asked why Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan would sacrifice 770 million euros to save Fritz. The USR leader explained that PSD had changed its position, now wanting to amend the law to include retroactive sanctions, which he considers unconstitutional. Fritz provided examples to illustrate the absurdity of the situation, emphasizing that there is no possibility for a parliamentary majority to impose retroactive sanctions. After the rejection of the law, USR and PNL announced that they would submit a new legislative initiative.
