The National Cyber Security Directorate (DNSC) has issued a warning regarding a new fraud attempt, in which users are informed through pop-ups on various websites that their devices are blocked due to browsing illegal sites. They are asked to pay a fine of 2,500 RON to the Romanian Police. DNSC emphasizes that these notifications are false and are part of a fraud scheme aimed at obtaining the card details of victims.
DNSC experts recommend that users always verify the authenticity of official notifications through separate channels, not to enter personal data on suspicious websites, and to be cautious of grammatical errors that may indicate a trap. In case card details have been provided, users are advised to immediately contact their bank and file a complaint with the police. Additionally, DNSC encourages reporting these incidents to protect other users.
