Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) is preparing workforce cuts, particularly among office-based employees in the United Kingdom, as part of its “Growth Reimagined” strategy. The measure aims to reduce organizational complexity and achieve £1.7 billion in savings.
The company has approximately 34,000 employees in the United Kingdom and just under 10,000 in other countries. JLR has not specified the exact number of jobs affected, but said that most of the layoffs will take place in its UK operations.
The plan aims to lower the break-even point to approximately 300,000 vehicles and increase efficiency in an automotive market affected by technological changes, intense competition and geopolitical uncertainty.
At the same time, the automaker plans to invest between £15 billion and £18 billion over the next five years in electrification, digital technologies, advanced manufacturing and improving the customer experience.
The restructuring follows a major cyberattack that led to production being halted last year. JLR is also facing sales pressures from Chinese manufacturers of cheaper electric vehicles, rising costs and tariffs imposed by the administration of US President Donald Trump.
