Disney is preparing a new wave of layoffs that could affect several thousand employees as part of a broad cost-cutting plan. According to sources cited by CNBC, the company has asked some managers to reduce expenses by up to 20%. The information comes from people familiar with Disney’s plans, who requested anonymity.
This is the latest round of layoffs since Josh D’Amaro took over leadership of the company at the beginning of the year. Disney announced in April that it would lay off up to 1,000 employees, mainly in marketing, and in September it targeted approximately 300 positions in human resources and technology.
In August, the leadership warned that further staff reductions would follow. The company also launched an early-retirement program, while involuntary cuts have already begun in some departments and could continue next year.
Disney had approximately 231,000 employees at the end of fiscal year 2025. The company will publish its quarterly results on November 17, when it could provide details about its cost-saving measures. Netflix and Skydance are also preparing staff reductions.
