Disney is laying off approximately 300 employees in a new round of staff reductions carried out after Josh D’Amaro took over leadership of the company at the beginning of this year. Most of the layoffs target the human resources and technology departments, according to a person familiar with the situation, cited by CNBC and reported by News.ro.
The measure is part of a broad cost-cutting program through which the company has already eliminated thousands of jobs in recent years. In April, Disney was preparing to eliminate up to 1,000 positions as it consolidated the marketing division across the group.
In July, the company eliminated several hundred more positions in corporate structures and divisions such as Pixar, ESPN, Disney Entertainment Television, and Disney studios. Most of those layoffs were reported at Pixar and National Geographic.
