Uber will make 10% of its total global workforce available

Uber will eliminate approximately 3,300 jobs worldwide, nearly 10% of its workforce, in a major restructuring process announced on Wednesday. The layoffs will mainly affect corporate, management and coordination positions, not the platform’s drivers and couriers, who are generally considered independent contractors.

The company, which had approximately 34,000 employees at the end of 2025, will reduce the number of management positions by 20% and simplify its hierarchical levels. Some positions will be transformed, while some managers will move into roles without management responsibilities. Uber will also merge the teams handling restaurant and retail deliveries and direct orders, as well as the Core Services Engineering and Science departments.

The savings will be redirected toward expanding its core businesses and developing autonomous rides. The company is trying to keep pace with Waymo and Tesla in the robotaxi market and has obtained permits for a commercial test in London together with Wayve.
