A counterfeit money factory was discovered in Suceava County, involving a group made up of three Romanians and one Italian, known for his international counterfeiting activities. The Romanian leader of the group purchased hundreds of kilograms of special paper and equipment to produce counterfeit banknotes, while the Italian trained the group members in the counterfeiting process. The group's intention was to distribute the money on international markets, especially in Bulgaria, which recently adopted the euro.
The Romanian Police, together with DIICOT, conducted searches in Suceava and Ilfov, resulting in the seizure of 1.2 million euros in counterfeit money and 1 kilogram of cocaine. The group established criminal links in Bulgaria and was caught in the act in Sofia, transporting counterfeit banknotes. They were set up in a building under construction, highlighting the scale of the illegal activities carried out.
