Dominic Fritz rejects the idea of an independent prime minister and calls for snap elections if a political solution does not emerge quickly

USR President Dominic Fritz said on Wednesday that the phrase “independent prime minister” makes no sense, since every prime minister depends on the parliamentary parties that grant him their support. The statement comes in the context of negotiations to identify a political solution and of USR, PNL, and UDMR supporting Siegfried Mureșan for the position of prime minister.

Fritz also rejected the idea of an “apolitical” prime minister, arguing that such a premier must rely on the votes of political formations in Parliament. The USR leader also ruled out supporting a prime minister “dependent on PSD” or controlled by the Social Democrats.

Regarding snap elections, Dominic Fritz said that USR supports this scenario “wholeheartedly” if a solution is not found quickly. He stated that snap elections are provided for by the Constitution precisely for situations in which the political class cannot overcome a crisis and that the decision should be returned to the citizens.

The USR president maintains that PSD does not want snap elections, against the backdrop of declining public support. He criticized the lifestyle of the Social Democratic leaders and said that more and more voters associate them with excessive spending and privileges.
