Dominic Fritz announced on Friday that USR will not join the government if the future executive includes PSD ministers and will not vote for any government considered a “front for PSD.” The position was presented after a discussion with members of the party’s National Bureau, in the context of political consultations to appoint a new prime minister.
The USR leader argues that the solution for emerging from the political crisis into which, according to the party, PSD and AUR have thrown Romania is to hold snap elections. Fritz stated that politicians must return before voters to ask them for a new mandate and allow them to decide who will lead the country.
USR is willing to discuss with the designated prime minister if President Nicușor Dan makes a new nomination, but maintains its position expressed over the past five months: the party does not accept participating in a government that includes PSD ministers and does not support an executive that would conceal the Social Democrats’ presence in power.
President Nicușor Dan summoned the parties and parliamentary formations to Cotroceni Palace on Monday for consultations regarding the appointment of a new candidate for the office of prime minister.
