USR President Dominic Fritz will propose to the party’s Political Committee, at Friday’s meeting, that the party’s lawmakers not vote for the government led by Luca Niculescu. The announcement was made Wednesday evening after Sorin Grindeanu announced the PSD’s decision to enter government.
Fritz argued that the need for stability cannot justify a return to a “wasteful government” and criticized the PSD for what he called the protection of privileges and the blocking of reforms. The USR leader said the party would not support a cabinet in which the Social Democrats would return, through “front people,” to ministries with substantial budgets.
In his message, Dominic Fritz referred to the work of USR ministers Radu Miruță, Irineu Darău, Oana Țoiu, and Diana Buzoianu, arguing that they had saved factories and jobs, promoted sanctions against individuals and organizations in Russia, and limited the use of public funds.
The final decision on the position of USR lawmakers is to be discussed and submitted to the Political Committee. The PSD decided to enter government after its priorities were included in the governing program of the future Niculescu Cabinet. Fritz also said that the new government could rely on a PSD-AUR majority and would not last long.
