Dominic Fritz denies having told Nicușor Dan: “This thing with Romania is your problem; the party is my problem”

USR President Dominic Fritz rejected on Thursday claims that he had privately told President Nicușor Dan that “Romania is your problem; the party is mine.” Fritz maintains that the statement was falsely attributed to him and is asking the newsrooms that published the information to retract it.

The USR leader’s reaction came a few hours after Nicușor Dan stated, following consultations at Cotroceni Palace to appoint a prime minister, that one of the party leaders he had spoken with had conveyed this idea to him. The president did not specify the politician’s identity.

“I categorically reject the speculation that has appeared in the press,” Fritz wrote on Facebook, calling the attribution “an outright lie.” He added that the statement reflects neither his language nor his way of thinking about politics.

Fritz said that he became involved in politics out of passion for Romania and in order to contribute, alongside USR, to building a more prosperous and fairer country. He also spoke about the need to constantly prove his loyalty to Romania, since he was not born in this country.

That same evening, Nicușor Dan designated PNL MEP Siegfried Mureșan for the position of prime minister. USR announced that it supports him, although negotiations to form a majority, including with the PSD, are expected to be difficult.
