The plane carrying Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to Oslo was reportedly nearly hit by a drone after taking off from the Republic of Moldova, Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre told public broadcaster NRK on Wednesday. The incident reportedly took place on Tuesday, before the Ukrainian leader arrived in Norway to attend the funeral of King Harald V.
“His plane was nearly hit by a drone during takeoff from the Republic of Moldova. This is the reality in which he lives,” the Norwegian prime minister said. Støre did not specify the source of the information or the distance at which the drone was reportedly from the presidential aircraft.
Zelenskyy arrived in Oslo on Tuesday evening, and on Wednesday attended the funeral ceremony alongside other heads of state. He left Norway shortly after the event concluded.
During the visit, discussions between the two leaders focused on Ukraine’s air defense. Zelenskyy was also due to meet with representatives of companies involved in the Freyja initiative, which aims to develop a European antiballistic system.
