FJORD, the film directed by Cristian Mungiu and selected as Romania’s submission for the Academy Awards, will have its national premiere on January 15, 2027, at a gala held at Sala Palatului in Bucharest. Director Cristian Mungiu, actors Sebastian Stan and Renate Reinsve, as well as members of the film’s crew, are expected to attend the event.
Before its official release, the production will be screened in Romania in a special screening on October 24 at 6:00 p.m., as part of the Les Films de Cannes à Bucarest festival. The film will screen simultaneously in cinemas in Bucharest and across the country, while a gala screening will take place at the Romanian Athenaeum. Tickets will go on sale on October 1, and the screening will be followed by a discussion between Cristian Mungiu and the audience.
FJORD will premiere in the United States on October 9 and is entered in the Oscar race in several categories, including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Cinematography and acting. The film has been selected for more than 50 festivals and will be distributed in approximately 100 countries. In France, the production has already surpassed 500,000 admissions.
