Austrian police found stolen bicycles with the help of AirTags and identified two Romanian suspects

An AirTag fitted to stolen bicycles helped police in the Austrian state of Styria solve two separate cases and identify two Romanian suspects. In both situations, the tracking device’s signal pointed to a van containing the bicycles.

The first case was reported on Wednesday morning in Graz, after the owner of an electric bicycle reported the theft and gave police the location indicated by the AirTag. The signal led them to a van parked on Puchstrasse. After several hours of surveillance, officers checked the vehicle and found three nearly new electric bicycles.

The van’s owner, a 44-year-old Romanian man, was identified and, according to police, admitted that he had stolen the bicycles that night. Investigators are trying to establish who owns the other two bicycles.

On the same day, another AirTag indicated a location in Kirchberg an der Raab after a children’s bicycle was stolen. Police again found a van with three bicycles and identified its owner, a 37-year-old Romanian man. The man denied the theft and claimed that he was only transporting the bicycles. The two suspects are being investigated while remaining at liberty.
