A 29-year-old Romanian man was arrested in Austria after allegedly snatching a phone from a 16-year-old teenager’s hand at a train station in Taufkirchen an der Pram. The incident took place on Thursday, shortly after noon, in the Schärding district of Upper Austria.
The victim was waiting for a train on the platform when he was approached by the man. The suspect allegedly took his phone and fled towards the town center. The teenager alerted the authorities, and police launched a search operation in and around the station.
Several patrols took part in the checks, and approximately one hour later, at around 1:20 p.m., officers spotted a man matching the description and arrested him. The teenager was called in for identification and recognized the suspect.
During a body search, police found the phone reported stolen, as well as the victim’s bank card, in the Romanian man’s possession. The man only partially admitted to the allegations during questioning.
The Ried im Innkreis Public Prosecutor’s Office ordered the suspect’s transfer to the detention facility in Ried. Investigations are continuing to establish all the circumstances surrounding the robbery.
