A 26-year-old Romanian man was restrained by police in Vienna on Saturday evening after threatening them and attempting to attack them with an iron bar. The incident took place at around 7:30 p.m. in the 17th district of the Austrian capital, after the man himself had called the emergency number and requested help.
While officers were making their way to the residence, they were informed that the man was known for aggressive behavior. Upon arrival, officers found the apartment door open. The suspect was inside, wearing only trousers and holding an iron bar in his hand.
The police officers tried to speak with him and repeatedly asked him to put the object down. The man did not respond, turned around and approached the officers. The situation became critical when he raised the bar toward one of the officers. To stop him, the officers used pepper spray, then restrained and detained him.
Paramedics were also called to the scene. The Romanian man received medical care and was taken to hospital, after which he was released. One police officer was injured during the operation, although the authorities did not specify the severity of the injuries. The man is expected to answer for his actions, according to OE24.
