A Romanian man was seriously injured after being stabbed in Vienna / The suspect, a distant relative, was caught

A 57-year-old Romanian man was seriously injured after being stabbed on Tuesday around noon on a street in Vienna’s Favoriten district. The attack took place at the intersection of Neilreichgasse and Sibeliusstrasse, and the victim was taken to hospital. Doctors determined that the man’s life was not in danger.

According to the Austrian press, the attacker is a 22-year-old man whom investigators believe is a distant relative of the victim. Several passers-by heard the Romanian man’s screams and intervened, at which point the suspect fled toward the Altes Landgut area.

Vienna police immediately launched a search, and the young man was identified and later found at his home. He reportedly admitted to the attack but did not provide clear explanations regarding the motive. The suspect was detained after the Vienna Public Prosecutor’s Office issued an arrest warrant.

Investigators are examining the circumstances of the conflict and the relationship between the two men. The weapon used has not been found. The case is being investigated by the Vienna State Criminal Police Office, Southern Division.
