Two Romanians, a 55-year-old man and a 53-year-old woman, were stopped by police in Germany while traveling toward Austria. The check took place on the evening of September 10 on the A3 motorway, in the area of the Donautal-West rest area near Passau.
Plainclothes traffic police officers stopped a Volkswagen Tiguan registered in Romania at around 9:30 p.m. Nearly 10,000 euros in cash and two luxury watches, with a combined value in the tens of thousands of euros, were found in the car.
Checks showed that one of the watches had been reported stolen in the state of Hesse at the beginning of June last year and was linked to a robbery case. The two did not provide documents proving the origin of the money or the second watch.
Investigators confiscated the money, the watches, and the mobile phones, and the two Romanians were temporarily detained. Subsequently, a warrant was obtained to search their home in the state of Baden-Württemberg.
The case is being handled by the Passau Criminal Police Inspectorate, under the coordination of the Passau Public Prosecutor's Office. The investigation concerns suspicions of money laundering and receiving stolen goods. After the police procedures were completed, the two were released, and the investigation is continuing.
