Two Romanian citizens, aged 33 and 40, were provisionally detained in Cologne, Germany, after federal police officers allegedly followed them and witnessed several thefts committed at train stations. The main incident took place on Friday, September 11, and the investigation concerns four cases of aggravated theft.
The two men were already under investigation for two other thefts committed on September 9 and 10 at Cologne Central Station and Köln Messe/Deutz station. Plainclothes officers followed them from Köln Hauptbahnhof to Köln Messe/Deutz, where the suspects allegedly targeted a 30-year-old Japanese woman.
According to investigators, one of the men allegedly blocked the other passengers while the second removed the woman’s wallet from her backpack. The wallet was later put back, but €250 was missing. During the search, police found €495 and a mobile phone in the men’s possession.
Reviewing surveillance footage allegedly revealed another theft, in which a phone was reportedly removed from the pocket of an unidentified man. The investigation is ongoing, according to the Federal Police in Cologne.
