The film 'Fjord', directed by Cristian Mungiu and winner of the Palme d'Or at Cannes 2026, has a high chance of being nominated in five categories at the Oscars, according to specialists from Variety magazine.
The Ministry of Culture has included the film on the list of strategic cultural projects to support production for the Oscars. 'Fjord' has been described by Variety as a 'ingeniously constructed social drama', and Mungiu is considered a great moral thinker of contemporary cinema. The film, shot in Norway, features actors speaking English, Norwegian, Swedish, and Romanian, a requirement for eligibility for the Oscars.
Thus, Mungiu could be nominated for 'Best Picture', 'Best Director', 'Best Actress in a Leading Role' for the role played by actress Renate Reinsve, 'Original Screenplay', and 'Best Foreign Film'.
Among the competing films is Christopher Nolan's 'Odyssey', which could be selected in 14 categories.
We remind you that Mungiu won his first Palme d'Or with '4 Months, 3 Weeks and 2 Days'.
