On the night from Friday to Saturday, Russian forces attacked Ukraine with 653 drones and 51 missiles, targeting production facilities and energy infrastructure. These attacks led to urgent requests for assistance from the operator Moldelectrica in the Republic of Moldova, which requested help from Romania to prevent overloads in the electricity system. Romania is currently exporting 1,341 MW to Moldova and 38 MW to Ukraine, while Moldova imports 1,350 MW from Romania and exports 820 MW to Ukraine.
The attacks caused significant damage in the regions of Chernihiv, Zaporizhzhia, Lviv, and Dnipropetrovsk, and in Odesa, thousands of households were left without water and heating. President Zelensky accused Russia of intending to inflict suffering on the civilian population on a large scale. Prime Minister Iulia Sviridenko warned that new scheduled power outages would follow to stabilize the affected network.
