The United for Romania parliamentary group nominates Victor Ponta for the position of prime minister

The United for Romania (UPR) parliamentary group, made up of 17 lawmakers, is taking part in the consultations convened by President Nicușor Dan to appoint a prime minister and is once again proposing Victor Ponta for the position. The consultations aim to identify a solution for forming a stable government and a clear parliamentary majority.

UPR argues that Romania needs a government with full powers, capable of making decisions and assuming responsibility for them. The parliamentary group believes that the first option should be a political prime minister, transparently supported by the parties that commit to the future government’s program, team and decisions.

The proposal of Victor Ponta was also put forward during the previous consultations, on June 23, 2026. UPR cites his government experience and ability to engage in dialogue with different political formations in a fragmented Parliament.

However, the group specifies that the nomination is not a condition for supporting the future government. If another political formula takes shape following the consultations, UPR says it is willing to participate constructively in the discussions, provided that the Executive is stable, professional and supported by a functioning majority.
