Oana Ţoiu, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Romania, met on Tuesday with Péter Szijjártó, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary. During the discussions, Ţoiu appreciated Hungary's support in the Schengen file and emphasized the importance of intensifying bilateral trade exchanges, as well as cooperation in areas such as infrastructure, transport, and energy. Both parties agreed on the need for an open and constructive dialogue, including on sensitive topics.
Additionally, the role of national minorities in deepening relations between the two countries was discussed. Ţoiu expressed confidence in harnessing bilateral potential and highlighted a 13% increase in trade exchanges after Romania's accession to Schengen. Furthermore, topics related to regional security and Romania's commitment to supporting the European path of the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine were addressed. The next mixed economic commission will take place in 2026.
