The Romanian government will make a decision regarding the minimum wage for next year by Christmas. Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan proposes to maintain the minimum wage at 4,050 lei, while the unions, represented by the Cartel Alfa confederation, are demanding an increase of 300 lei, thus reaching 4,350 lei gross. Bogdan Hossu, president of Cartel Alfa, criticized the government's measures, arguing that they lead to the impoverishment of the population and affect economic activity.
In an open letter, the unions accuse the government of abnormal wage policies and sacrificing citizens in favor of capital. Hossu emphasized that the current tax system is unbalanced, placing too great a burden on employees. Prime Minister Bolojan acknowledged that increasing the minimum wage could protect purchasing power, but warned that it could fuel inflation and affect small businesses.
