The fitness giant Basic-Fit announced that hackers have breached its systems, gaining access to personal information of approximately 1 million customers across Europe. The company, which operates the largest chain of gyms in Europe with over 1,700 clubs, stated that affected members were informed directly. In a statement published on its website, Basic-Fit mentioned that it has notified the competent authority for data protection regarding the security incident. Although unauthorized access was detected quickly, an investigation conducted with the help of external experts confirmed that customer data was exfiltrated. Approximately 200,000 customers from the Netherlands are affected, but the total number of affected members amounts to 1 million, including countries such as Belgium, Luxembourg, France, Spain, and Germany. The company assured that identification documents or passwords were not accessed. Basic-Fit complies with European Union data retention legislation, being required to delete personal information after two years. Although the investigation did not reveal online leaks, the company will continue to monitor the situation with the help of security specialists.
