Latvia was the victim of a massive cyber attack, during which the personal data of approximately 1.2 million people and the information of 200,000 companies were compromised. The incident occurred last week, and among the stolen data are names, surnames, addresses, payment details, and vehicle registration numbers, according to the Road Traffic Safety Directorate of Latvia (CSDD).
Prime Minister Andris Kulbergs stated that the possibility cannot be excluded that the attack was orchestrated from another country. Cybersecurity authorities in Latvia have warned that the stolen data could be used for abusive purposes. Kulbergs has called for an investigation and criticized the CSDD for the delay in informing him about the incident, emphasizing the urgent need for additional security measures. He mentioned that two serious cyber attacks in a short period represent a serious threat to national security.
