The authorities in Warsaw announced on Wednesday that a cyber attack compromised the information of nearly 19 million Poles, affecting medical data, including consultations, prescriptions, and medical files. The Minister of Digital Affairs, Krzysztof Gawkowski, stated that this incident is one of the largest cyber attacks in Poland's history, which has a population of 37 million.

Although there is no evidence that the attack originated from a foreign state, the minister emphasized that the attackers appear to have been financially motivated. Gawkowski ruled out the option of paying a ransom and promised that those responsible will be pursued vigorously. The stolen information varies in type and volume, and the minister announced a mechanism through which citizens can check if their data has been compromised. The services of the affected company were used by approximately 12,000 medical units in the country.
