This service integrates AWS Interconnect with Google’s Cross-Cloud Interconnect, allowing customers to establish private, high-speed connections without relying on public internet routing. Customers can now allocate dedicated bandwidth and activate connectivity in just a few minutes, reducing the need for manual configurations and physical infrastructure. The service also introduces an open interoperability specification for multicloud networks, available to other cloud providers as well. In terms of security, encrypted links between edge routers and redundant paths are included to ensure high availability. However, the transparency of pricing for intercloud transfers remains an issue, which may hinder the adoption of this service. The publication of the open standard for interoperability opens up opportunities for network, security, and observability providers, inviting them to develop tools and platforms that will improve the management and monitoring of traffic between the two clouds. This could include policy enforcement tools, unified dashboards for monitoring, and cost optimization software.
