Amazon has announced that it recently sent a new series of satellites into space, reaching a total of 396, which allows it to launch its satellite internet service, thus competing with Starlink.

Company officials state that this number of satellites is sufficient to provide connectivity at all initial latitudes, although the service will not have impressive speeds and coverage at first.

In comparison, Starlink, which was launched in 2020 with nearly 900 satellites, had limited coverage in the northern United States and Canada, and users complained about slow speeds and frequent interruptions. Now, Starlink has over 10,000 satellites and operates in over 160 countries.

Amazon expects to follow a similar evolution with its Leo service, according to previous plans for an initial launch in the first part of this year.
