The Permanent Bureau of the Senate decided, on Tuesday, to expand the investigation by the Constitutional Affairs Committee to also verify the presence of Constitutional Court judge Cristian Deliorga on a private flight taken alongside politicians. The decision must be approved by the plenary of the Senate. The President of the Senate, Mircea Abrudean, stated that clarification of this flight was necessary, citing the need to avoid applying a “double standard”. “It is a private flight that has not been clarified. We cannot have a double standard,” he said. The Constitutional Affairs Committee is already conducting an investigation into the meeting between Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan and President of the Constitutional Court, Simina Tănăsescu. The meeting took place on August 14, in Mircea Abrudean’s office, three days before the constitutional judges were to examine the notifications concerning the Integrity Law. The discussion had not been publicly announced beforehand. According to information reported in the press, Cristian Deliorga allegedly traveled to Greece on a private plane alongside businessman Gruia Stoica, who was previously convicted, and former PSD minister Florin Manole. Mihai Daraban claimed that the trip was paid for by the Chamber of Commerce and was intended to involve a meeting with potential American investors. He said that he had invited Deliorga, whom he has known for approximately 30 years.
