The Senate’s Committee on Constitutional Affairs has once again summoned the president of the Constitutional Court, Simina Tănăsescu, and the interim prime minister, Ilie Bolojan, for hearings on October 20. The two have been called for the sixth time as part of the parliamentary inquiry into the meeting they had on August 14, at Parliament.
The committee also decided to invite the CCR’s secretary-general, Alexandru Borcan, again. The deadline for completing the inquiry was extended by the Senate plenary until November 8, because the Constitutional Court has not yet sent the requested responses, while several summoned individuals have failed to appear for hearings.
The inquiry was approved by the Senate on August 24, and its scope was expanded on September 8 to include the private flight to Mykonos taken on July 8 by CCR judge Cristian Deliorga, together with several politicians. Deliorga and the president of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Romania, Mihai Daraban, were also absent from Tuesday’s hearing and will be summoned again next week.
Meanwhile, AUR senator Corneliu Negru is proposing an amendment to the Senate’s rules so that summoned individuals would be required to appear. An unjustified refusal could lead to the authority where the person works or to the criminal prosecution bodies being notified.
