Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan and the president of the Constitutional Court, Simina Tănăsescu, were summoned on Tuesday to hearings before the Senate Committee on Constitutionality to explain the unannounced meeting on August 14, held in the office of the president of the Senate, Mircea Abrudean. The hearings were requested by the PACE – First Romania parliamentary group.

Ilie Bolojan was scheduled for 11:00 a.m., but did not appear. Simina Tănăsescu was due to be heard from 11:30 a.m. If the president of the Constitutional Court does not appear before the committee, the lawmakers have scheduled the hearing of an employee of the Protection and Guard Service.

From 1:00 p.m., Mircea Abrudean, the director of the Chancellery of the president of the Senate, the director of his Cabinet, and the director general of the advisers to the president of the Senate are expected to attend hearings.

Representatives of the PNL and USR also requested that the agenda be supplemented with an investigation into Constitutional Court judge Cristian Deliorga’s trip to Mykonos aboard a private plane, alongside politicians and businesspeople. The request was challenged by the PACE representative, who requested that an application be submitted to the Permanent Bureau. USR stated that the document had already been drafted and requested an immediate vote.
