The Judicial Inspection "initiated an ex officio investigation" and is examining Judge Cătălin Croitoru's flight to Mykonos on a private jet

The Judicial Inspection initiated an ex officio investigation and is examining the participation of judge Marius Cătălin Croitoru, president of the Constanța Tribunal, in a trip on a private plane to Mykonos. The checks concern a possible breach of the rules of conduct provided for in the Code of Ethics for Judges and Prosecutors.

According to a statement issued on Tuesday, the Judicial Inspection will exclusively analyze the situation of judge Croitoru. The decision comes after information published by NewsCenter, according to which 13 people traveled together in July 2026, including politicians, businesspeople, and magistrates.

The passengers allegedly included former Prime Minister Victor Ponta, former minister Florin Manole, Constitutional Court judge Cristian Deliorga, and businessman Gruia Stoica, founder of the Grampet Group and definitively convicted of influence peddling.

The Judicial Inspection operates within the Superior Council of Magistracy and has authority over judges and prosecutors in the ordinary judicial system. CCR judges are not under the authority of the SCM, so Cristian Deliorga’s situation cannot be investigated by the Judicial Inspection. Any disciplinary investigations in his case may be ordered by the plenary of the Constitutional Court.

Florin Manole and UDMR senator István-Loránt Antal stated that the trip was organized and paid for by the Chamber of Commerce of Romania. The organization’s president, Mihai Daraban, confirmed that he paid for the flight and said that the trip included meetings with partners from the United States who were in Mykonos.
