The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, has decided to place the port city of Odesa under military administration, following a conflict with Mayor Hennadiy Trukhanov. Through a decree issued on Wednesday, Zelensky established a new military administration, led by intelligence general Serhii Lisak, who was relieved from his position as military governor of the Dnipropetrovsk region. This decision was preceded by the withdrawal of Trukhanov's citizenship, accused of holding a Russian passport, which effectively removes him from office.
Zelensky emphasized that Odesa needs stronger protection, without providing details about security issues. Critics accuse Zelensky's administration of authoritarian tendencies, replacing elected officials with military administrations. Local elections have also been canceled due to martial law, and current mandates have been extended until the end of the war. Tensions between elected officials and those appointed by the president continue to rise.
