The procedure for designating Romania's candidate for the position of judge at the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) was approved on August 27 in a Government meeting. Romania must propose a candidate by the expiration of the current judge's term, Ion Gâlea, on October 6.

The announcement regarding the selection will be published on September 21, and the deadline for submitting applications is October 7. A committee made up of representatives from the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and other institutions will evaluate the candidates, taking into account legal qualifications, professional experience, and language skills. The hearing of the candidates will take place between November 2 and 4, and the results will be announced on November 6. The final proposal will be approved by the Government and sent to the Council of the European Union by November 27.

CJEU judges are appointed by the governments of the member states, with the opinion of the Committee provided for in Article 255 TFEU being essential in this process.
