The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, announced on Friday evening that he has signed a decree establishing a special command within the Armed Forces, aimed at coordinating "long-range operations" against Russia. The purpose of this command is to concentrate all available resources to reduce Russia's capacity to continue the war.
In recent weeks, Ukraine has intensified drone attacks on Russian energy infrastructure, including oil refineries in the Krasnodar and Leningrad regions. In response to these attacks, Russia has banned diesel exports to ensure domestic supply and temporarily suspended operations at several refineries. Additionally, gasoline production has significantly decreased. However, Ukraine continues to face a lack of air defense systems, remaining vulnerable to ballistic missile attacks from Russia.
Experts warn that, although Ukrainian attacks represent a notable shift, it is premature to conclude that Ukraine has changed the course of the conflict.
