President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced Monday evening that Ukraine is preparing new contracts for air defense systems and missiles, amid an intensification of Russian attacks on energy infrastructure and other critical facilities. Kyiv is also seeking additional capabilities to intercept ballistic missiles.
Zelenskyy did not provide details about the contracts under preparation, citing security reasons, but said they could help strengthen the country’s defenses. Ukraine is expanding specialized teams for intercepting Shahed drones, increasing the number of gun towers, and accelerating the production of interceptor systems. The Ukrainian president called on manufacturers to act quickly, stating that the tasks had been established and the funding was available.
Protecting critical infrastructure has become the most urgent challenge for Ukraine’s air defense, especially with the cold season approaching. Russian drone and missile attacks primarily threaten the energy network and cities.
