The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, announced on Tuesday evening the dismissal of Oleksandr Syrski from the position of commander-in-chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, appointing Mykhailo Drapati in his place.
Zelensky emphasized the importance of reorganizing the structure of the General Staff of the army, mentioning Oleksandr Syrski's contributions in defending Kyiv and in the operations in Kharkiv and Kursk.
The dismissal of General Syrski comes after a week of mass protests triggered by the dismissal of the Minister of Defense, Mykhailo Fedorov, who had entered into conflict with Syrski. Zelensky stated that the former minister will receive a new role to coordinate the technological aspects of the state, in an attempt to stabilize the political situation in the country.
