During the recent negotiations with the Opposition, the Government of Venezuela, led by interim president Delcy Rodríguez, did not request the release of former president Nicolas Maduro, suggesting a change in strategy.
Rodríguez considered the capture of Maduro by the American military to be an act of 'base aggression', but despite this, the government did not raise the issue of his release in the five negotiation sessions held this month.
Opposition representatives noted that Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, seemed to have been 'erased from history' during the discussions. In return, the new leadership in Caracas has opened the country's natural resources to foreign investors, including American companies.
The negotiations aimed to establish steps for organizing new presidential elections, but had limited results, focusing on funding reconstruction after earthquakes and the repatriation of gold bars from the Bank of England.
