The trial of Nicolás Maduro, the former president of Venezuela, accused in the United States of narcoterrorism and drug trafficking, could begin in June 2027, according to a schedule proposed by federal prosecutors and defense attorneys. Both parties have presented the court with a detailed plan for managing classified evidence and preparing for the trial.
Before a scheduled hearing on Wednesday, preliminary motions and the submission of evidence were discussed. However, both parties reserve the right to request delays, and prosecutors have warned that changes to the schedule could occur in case of issues with classified evidence.
Maduro and his wife last appeared in court in March, when attorneys attempted to dismiss the case, without success. Previously, U.S. law enforcement conducted a military operation in Venezuela to capture the two, with allegations including conspiracy with drug cartels to facilitate cocaine trafficking to the United States.
