Hundreds of flights have been canceled in Germany due to the pilots' strike at Lufthansa, which began the next day. The dispute over salaries and pensions has led pilots from Lufthansa, Lufthansa Cargo, and Lufthansa CityLine to stop working, affecting over 1,100 departures and arrivals at Frankfurt airport and 710 flights at Munich airport. The strike, organized by the VC union, is motivated by grievances related to the company's pay and pension scheme. Lufthansa's flight attendants are expected to join the strike on Wednesday and Thursday, marking the fifth wave of union actions this year. Lufthansa's human resources director, Michael Niggemann, warned the unions that each day of strike weakens the company. Lufthansa is the largest airline in Europe and also owns Austrian, Swiss, Eurowings, and Brussels Airlines.
