The German police launched an investigation on Wednesday following the discovery of a suspicious object near the southern runway of Leipzig/Halle Airport, an incident that temporarily disrupted airport operations. The runway, essential for the DHL logistics group, was closed to allow specialists to examine the object using explosives disposal technology. Authorities are also investigating reports of an unidentified flying object associated with the incident.
Following this event, several aircraft, including a passenger flight, were redirected during the night; however, operations resumed during the morning. Airports in Germany are on high alert due to unauthorized drone overflights, and federal police have suggested that these may be linked to Russian agents, a claim that Russia denies.
