Considered to be the largest airport in the United Kingdom, Heathrow Airport is in collapse due to storms that have severely disrupted air traffic. By Saturday, nearly 800 flights had been delayed or canceled amid the transition from a heatwave to storms, with delays of up to 11 hours. The UK air traffic control service announced that delays will continue throughout the day.
Passengers expressed their frustration on social media, with some reporting unpleasant experiences, such as a British woman whose daughter was stuck on a plane for four hours at Gatwick. Gatwick Airport has implemented temporary air traffic control restrictions, and Easyjet has apologized for the disruptions. According to monitoring data, 377 flights were delayed at Heathrow and 399 at Gatwick, severely affecting passenger travel.
